Oregon now has more older adults 65+ than children 19 and under. This moment brings an unprecedented opportunity to address ageism and reimagine how we live, work, and care for one another across generations. AGE+ was created to respond to this challenge. We champion a new vision for aging in Oregon by driving innovation, challenging bias, and leading systems change to create a more equitable future for all.
AGE+ challenges stereotypes about aging by emphasizing the leadership, experience, and ongoing contributions of older adults. We recognize that ageism rarely stands alone and often overlaps with other biases like racism and sexism, increasing exclusion and disparities in communities and workplaces. Through training programs like our Leadership Exchange on Ageism (LEA), we help decision makers identify age bias in policies, hiring, and culture, providing practical tools to remove these barriers and better include older adults.
AGE+ also works to shift how aging is understood within DEI efforts. Many older adults want and need to work but are often overlooked due to ageism. By embedding age into DEI strategies and creating space for multigenerational leadership, organizations can embrace all ages, build stronger teams, and drive innovation that reflects Oregon’s diverse experiences.
Older adults bring value to the workforce. Employers and DEI leaders must focus on skills and create pathways for leadership and mentorship opportunities. They should assess workforce policies and consider ways to adapt to longer working lives by offering options like phased retirement, flexible work arrangements, and professional development for employees at all stages. Companies also need to rethink their products and services to better serve an aging population.
Collaboration across sectors and strong inclusion strategies are essential. AGE+ supports and coaches organizations through adopting these approaches to build strong, diverse teams and prepare for Oregon’s evolving workforce and economy.
Start by partnering with AGE+. We provide practical tools, guidance, and training to help organizations embed age equity into their broader inclusion strategies. Joining an LEA cohort offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts and peers about addressing ageism in meaningful ways. From reviewing policies to reframing messaging, we help organizations move from awareness to meaningful action. This ensures people of all ages are valued, respected, and able to thrive.
