If so, Come Join Us at Washington County by joining our Maternal Child & Reproductive Health Program within the Department of Health and Human Services as a Community Health Nurse II.

The nurse in this position will work in the Nurse Family Partnership program and carry a caseload of 25 families, pregnant moms, and parents with children through 2 years of age. This work is usually carried out in the home, but during COVID-19, we are doing virtual visits, using telephone and web-based applications. The nurse will also provide health education, childbirth and breastfeeding preparation and will support parenting and child development throughout this two-year-program. Some primary duties will include:
• Assessing the family’s needs for resources and education to prepare for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting for the first two years.
• Providing additional resources and education for those needs as much as possible. This may involve an education training in infant massage, lactation, child development, nutrition, immunizations and many other subjects based on the clients’ needs and desires.
• Providing information and connection to resources in the community and help to advocate when necessary.
• When able to do visits in the home, responsibilities may include weight checks, developmental screening and other physical assessments in addition to all the above.

The successful candidate will have experience in prenatal and childbirth education, breastfeeding and postpartum support and education, developmental screening techniques and other activities that promote normal infant development. The candidate will also have experience in case management, referral, and follow-up processes to ensure access to health care and other services. Additionally, the candidate will have training and experience in assessment of the physical home environment for families of children with asthma or persistent wheezing and other maternal child health programs.
