The Area Coordinator (AC) is a professional staff position that serves as live-in, primary manager for multiple on-campus residence halls in support of the college’s academic mission. The AC provides support, programming, information, and referrals to the Reed student community. The AC is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating up to 15 House Advisers; They also advise students on matters related to Residence Life, which includes mediating conflicts and making referrals to appropriate campus resources for specialized assistance; and follow-up on resident concerns. Residence Life’s approach is based in harm reduction, motivational interviewing, student autonomy, and restorative practices.
