The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is a non-profit organization that is nationally recognized for the superb post World-War II print collection, along with paintings, sculpture, and glass by key contemporary artist. Most notably the Foundation makes the collections available through an active exhibition and lending program that is supported by educational grants and scholarly publications.
The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is seeking a precise and highly organized Assistant Registrar of Collections with excellent communication and relationship management skills. As part of our collaborative registration team, the Assistant Registrar will have the unique opportunity to work with a growing collection of over 17,000 objects, coordinate incoming shipments of new acquisitions, catalogue artwork, update database records, and partner with the Collection Registrar and Art Handlers on housing and storage issues. Substantial art handling is required for completion of most duties.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manage all logistics and documentation for incoming acquisitions
Perform handling, numbering, un/packing, and condition reporting, for all acquisitions
Work closely with the Collection team to facilitate safe and proper storage conditions including packing and environment for long-term storage
Track movement of new incoming artwork and update database
Assist in maintaining artist files
Perform physical inventory of collection and update database
Update acquisition records with pertinent metadata
Work on special projects as assisted by the Director of Collection
Bachelor's degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field
3-years of experience in museum collection management
Proven knowledge of museum collection care principles and practices to include proper handling, preservation and/or maintenance.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team-oriented environment
Exceptional organizational skills, good judgment, and professional initiative in an active environment
