The office of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler seeks a Director of Communications to join a diverse and talented team of public servants. The Communications Director serves as a key member of the Mayor’s leadership team, guiding our work to build public trust through transparent, accessible and compelling communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Developing and delivering a long-range communications plan that identifies priority issues, audiences and strategies, and clearly defines roles and responsibilities for communications team members
Participating in key decision-making discussions
Working with policy staff to identify and highlight work of interest to the community
Ensuring timely and complete responses to public records requests and media inquiries
Working collaboratively with City bureaus and staff from partner jurisdictions
Providing direction, coaching and mentoring to communications team members
Preparing and running press conferences
Writing speeches and emails for the Mayor
Ensuring clarity and consistency in office communications across a wide variety of platforms
Other duties as assigned
